Closest to Denver (exit 239 along I-70), you’ll find this brewery, restaurant and bar in-one among the mainstays of Idaho Springs. The modern brewhouse is outfitted with a big, center bar where you can order flights of Belgian and German styles, as well as American IPAs and a Mexican lager. The brewpub may be in a touristy locale, but it’s churning out some serious beer: Westbound and Down won two silver medals — for Westbound Double IPA and the Double Barrel Louie, a barrel-aged English barleywine — and was named Mid-Sized Brewpub of the Year at this year’s Great American Beer Festival.
Hungry? Start with comforting green chile or fried green tomatoes. And there vegetarian and vegan options along with your typical sandwiches and burgers.
