Why You Should Start Shaving Your Face (Video!)

Back in 2015, I started seeing an esthetician on a regular basis. And during my first visit, she shaved my face. I had never even thought about shaving my face before and after it was done, I couldn’t believe how soft my face felt. My skin was glowing, it was buttery soft, and my makeup looked so much better when I put it on. At that point, I was sold on dermaplaning. If you’ve never been to an esthetician that has shaved your face, let me give you a quick breakdown about dermaplane – your esthetician will use a surgical scalpel to shave the skin, removing the top layer of dead skin as well as peach fuzz. It’s like exfoliating your face, but so much better since you’re actually removing that dead skin and hair, instead of just moving it around your face.

But of course, not everyone has the time or budget to see an esthetician regularly. And that’s where today’s post comes in handy! I’ve talked about this handy dandy facial razor on my instagram before, but I continually get questions about it daily so I decided to sum it all up in this post and how I use it. So let’s first talk about the pros to shaving your face

  1. It removes dead skin cells that are just sitting on your skin, taking up space.
  2. It gets rid of the peach fuzz (vellus hairs) as well as those dark hairs that seem to sprout out of nowhere as you get older.
  3. It makes your skin smoother and softer.
  4. It allows any products you apply after to penetrate deeper into the skin.
  5. It promotes cellular turnover, which can help with wrinkles, dark spots, and reducing acne scars.

All of this leads to more bright and radiant skin. It will also means that your makeup goes on smoother and looks better throughout the day since it’s not getting caked into hair and skin cells. And no, your facial hair will not grow back thicker and/or darker from this process. This is also a great option for pregnant or breastfeeding women who are not able to do other skincare treatments!

Now let’s chat about how to use the razor –

  1. I personally do not use any product on my face before I shave it. I simply wash and cleanse my face first, to remove any sort of dirt and grime, dry my face, then get to shaving.
  2. I pull my hair back to make sure I don’t give myself a haircut in the meantime, then I pull the skin taut, then start shaving upward or downward in short strokes. Just like the rest of your body, the hair on your face grows in different directions so you may have to shave in different directions as well.
  3. Throughout the process on your face and jawline, rinse the razor every so often and dry it off before continuing. You’ll be quite surprised at how much comes off onto the razor, dead skin AND hair.
  4. Once you are done and your face is feeling smooth and sexy as ever, this is the perfect time to put on your favorite products since they will now be able to penetrate the skin deeper than before.
  5. I only use this razor 2-3 times before tossing it. And I clean it between uses to make sure it is disinfected.

Remember, I’m not a doctor or esthetician or any kind of a specialist. I’m just a person who gets my face dermaplaned by an esthetician every 4 weeks and uses this razor once in between appointments. This is a great tool, but I highly recommend seeing a specialist to get the full result and to make sure you are a candidate. I love these cheap ass razors, but there are other tools out there that other people love and recommend, so I’ve linked those below!

}(document, ‘script’, ‘shopthepost-script’);

You’re going to be so surprised how soft your skin feels and how much it glows once you shave that face of yours! Stop ignoring your mustache. As much as your may think it’s not there, it is. Get rid of it! And if you’re in Denver, here is my esthetician’s contact info – Shawn Haviland at Cherry Hills Facial Aesthetics 720-459-7960. She is truly the best!
